Challenges of Thermal Remediation at Superfund Sites

Citation:

Davis, E. Challenges of Thermal Remediation at Superfund Sites. International In-situ Thermal Treatment Symposium, Banff, Alberta, CANADA, May 30 - 31, 2017.

Impact/Purpose:

In recent years, the use of in situ thermal remediation technologies at Superfund Sites in the United States has increased substantially. With this, comes new challenges while the overall goal of reducing contamination to very low levels remains. My experience has been that there are some issues that come up at nearly all sites: 1) defining the area to be treated, and 2) determining when to shut the system off. This presentation will discuss both of these issues.
